The following is a letter I sent to all of my elected representatives, from the president all the way down to local assemblymen. I expect them to be silent, but I no longer will let them expect me to be silent.

Dear ...
Facts are facts. Choosing to ignore them to push an agenda is reprehensible, at best.
Our founding fathers saw a direct need to include the Bill of Rights in the Constitution "in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its(the government) powers". Included in this Bill of Rights was the 2nd Amendment. The only amendment, by the way, that declares its intent "shall not be infringed". That amendment was included not so I could hunt, shoot targets, engage in sporting competitions or commit any crimes, it was included so that the people could protect themselves from a liberty stealing government. The Militia spoken of is not some extremist group of weapon hoarding zealots. The militia was and is, the people of the United States of America. It is our duty to protect our liberties. We elected you to help us do just that. Not to bypass, restrict and further erode them.
When you took office, you were bound by oath to UPHOLD the Constitution. If you are unable to perform your duty to uphold our most basic liberty, then you should resign. The citizens of the United States of America deserve better than to have our most basic liberties dismantled piece by piece by those we hired(yes, you work for us) to uphold them.
In the area of gun control laws, it seems a most basic understanding of the way criminals respect our laws would tell us that enacting more laws would do nothing in the way of deterring them. The only people affected by such things would be law-abiding citizens. I firmly believe that you know this. I can only then determine your intent is not to restrict guns, but to restrict liberty. This is wholly unacceptable.
Please think about what you are doing and the ultimate ramifications it will have on our country. John Adams said,“[B]ut a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.” Is this your intent? If not, I urge you to consider the facts surrounding this issue. Careful consideration of cause/effect in both the gun issue and the liberty issue is of utmost importance. We hired you to do a job. Please do it.
